What is Bamboo Flooring?

Bamboo floorings are a popular alternative option to hardwood flooring because of its physical similarities to true hardwoods. They are manufactured from the bamboo plant. Bamboo flooring is well-known for strength, durability, eco-friendliness and its natural resistance to insects and moisture.

In reality, bamboos are a type of grass, not wood; but they are nothing like the grass you’re used to. Majority of today’s bamboo flooring products originate in China and other portions of Asia. Moso Bamboo is the species most commonly used for flooring.

Thickness and width

Bamboo Flooring thickness is usually around 14mm. Their width varies between 115to 135mm. Choosing the right width for your Bamboo flooring is a personal decision and depends on the size of your final space.

Finish

Bamboo is a popular flooring material due to its natural beauty and durability and similar in appearance to hardwood flooring. It is a very hard surface that is resistant to moisture and stains, which makes it a low-maintenance flooring option. Please note; the smooth surface can be slippery especially when wet.

Installation

The most common installing Bamboo flooring is by click system interlocking joints into place. An underlay must be used to float the floor over. Once you have laid your underlay, allow 10mm spacers round your room once removed they will leave an expansion room to allow the flooring to expand and contract naturally.

Care

While a bamboo floor is relatively easy to maintain it is nearly impossible to keep it perfect if it is used regularly. There are a wide variety of things that can cause nasty scratches on the surface of a bamboo floor. High heels, pet claws, and furniture legs can all damage the surfaceas mentioned above.

Bamboo is more resistant to water damage than the average hardwood. However it is still a natural material made of organic elements, and as such excessive moisture will cause it to warp or will allow mold to grow. A flood can severely damage a bamboo flooring installation.

Who should select Bamboo as flooring?

Because it is both harder and more water resistant than wooden floorsbamboo is often a good alternative in a kitchen. However, you still have to be aware of moisture, flooding, and humidity damage that can occur.

Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo flooring are durable and more water resistant than hardwood floors, but they are not waterproof so it is not recommended that they are installed in bathrooms or other areas with excess moisture and water.
