2 Installation Types for Engineered Flooring
When it comes to installation types for engineered flooring, there are two main methods to complete the project. In this guide, we will explain these two installation types for engineered flooring in detail.
Floating Installation Type for Engineered Flooring#
In the floating installation method, you lay the underlay parallel to the length of the engineered floorboards or planks. After you install the first row of engineered flooring, gradually add the next row of underlay and then place the next engineered plank on top.
Floors installed by this method offer more protection than oiled floors. Therefore, you can use floating engineered flooring in kitchens or areas where only small splashes might happen. However, because of high moisture, we do not recommend engineered flooring for bathrooms.
Are Engineered Floors Scratch Resistant?#
Engineered floors have a real wood surface. Although it is possible to scratch them, it usually requires effort. Dragging furniture causes most scratches. To prevent this, use protective pads under furniture legs.
In floating installation, the floorboards float over the underlay. You must leave an expansion gap around the room edges. Using a rubber hammer helps secure the joints with gentle tapping.
Typically, installers place floorboards parallel to the room’s long walls. They usually lay the boards from left to right, with the tongue side facing the starting wall.
Glued-Down Installation Type for Engineered Flooring#
The glued-down installation requires a suitable subfloor. Make sure the subfloor is flat, firm, and free of cracks before starting. It must be dry and hard to ensure good adhesion.
Installers usually place floorboards parallel to the long walls, from left to right, with the tongue facing the starting wall. Leave an expansion gap around the room’s edges. Also, using a rubber hammer can help gently tap and secure the joints.
